The recently completed Newbattle Centre was procured for Midlothian Council via hub South East Scotland with Morrison Construction as the Tier 1 Contractor.

The Centre will accommodate up to 1,200 pupils and will also act as a Community Hub for the surrounding area.

The community facilities are shared with the school but are located in a distinct area and include: a 6-lane, 25m swimming pool; air-conditioned fitness suite; dance studio; gymnasium and sports hall.   The community facility also includes a dedicated entrance and café area and has access to all weather sports pitches.

DSSR provided full design duties, including the BREEAM Assessment – Target ‘Very Good’.  The school incorporates a Combined Heating & Power Unit (CHP) to make use of the summertime heat load associated with the swimming pool facilities to deliver a low carbon and low energy design solution.

Exposed thermal mass is utilised throughout the building, coupled with the use of acoustic lighting rafts to help maintain good comfort conditions.
