Overview of the Nexus Packaging Manufacturing Facility project

DSSR provided full design consultancy in relation to the construction of new offices and warehouse facility to support Nexus Packaging Limited.

The 57,000 sq ft warehouse facility will accommodate up to 10 new state-of-the-art blow moulding machines and supporting equipment. Nexus Packaging currently produces a range of plastic container designs, manufactured in various polymer types on their Hillington site. The scheme also includes 740m2 / 165kW of roof-mounted solar PV, providing on-site electricity generation. We estimate that the solar PV array will generate 146,000 kWh of electricity per year, resulting in an annual saving of 69 tonnes of carbon emissions.

Our Building Performance Modelling team provided dynamic simulation modelling in order to assess the potential risk of overheating in the factory area which was used to inform the factory ventilation design.

  • The facility achieved an EPC A-rating – close to Net Zero Carbon EPC – and a Sustainability Gold rating.
  • Less than annual 3kg CO2 emissions per sqm building area associated with building services energy usage
  • Heating and cooling to office spaces via an air source heat pump system
