Overview of the Barrow Police Station project
This design and build project for the Cumbria Police Authority is a 2 storey building to accommodate the Operational Police Station and Custody Suite and also includes a Fleet Maintenance Garage.
The new building at Barrow is an impressive addition to the area, providing the necessary facilities for a modern, efficient police station. The Custody Suite Accommodation consists of 16 cells, an operational police station with office and storage space, and welfare facilities for the operational teams. The public reception areas are designed to be welcoming and accessible to all.
In addition, the Fleet Maintenance Garage is housed in a single-storey building with four maintenance bays, a small office, stores, and toilet facilities. The design of the building prioritises energy efficiency, and DSSR’s full M&E services ensured that it achieved a ‘BREEAM Excellent’ standard. This means that the building meets very high environmental and sustainability standards, including energy efficiency, materials used, and waste management. Overall, the building is an outstanding example of modern, sustainable design, providing essential facilities for the Barrow police force while minimising its impact on the environment.
