New Craigend Resource Centre, Greenock
DSSR recently assisted in the design and creation of the new Craigend Resource Centre, a vital community resource in Greenock which delivers crucial services to the most vulnerable in the community.
We are proud to have been involved in the creation of the new resource centre which provides a vibrant area with a fit-for-purpose community-owned asset. DSSR provided utilities consultation and MEP designs covering electrical, mechanical, and public health services.
Craigend Resource Centre is located in the East End of Greenock, Inverclyde. The Centre has been operating since 1995 and delivers a wide range of valuable services to the community. The new facility is a focal point for the community, promoting essential services and a greatly appreciated social space for local people.
Thanks in large part to a generous grant from the National Lottery Community Fund, the new resource centre includes excellent educational facilities, to help people learn to use IT and how to cook, social facilities such as a multi-use hall and meeting spaces, laundry facilities, a café & salad bar, and a creche area. It also hosts community events such as bingo for pensioners, children’s dance classes, art therapy, and a summer playscheme for local children.
A key consideration in the design of the site was how to provide a flexible facility, allowing service provision to change in response to needs over time, and allowing the Centre to continue to meet the community’s needs.
