Overview of the Barking Community Hospital CDC project
By relocating diagnostic care away from acute settings, the CDC supports a national initiative aimed at bringing planned healthcare services closer to patients’ homes.
Addressing Local Needs
Strategically situated, the facility will play a key role in tackling health inequalities in a region forecasted to see a 21% rise in healthcare service demand over the next two to three decades. By addressing growing community needs, the CDC will help alleviate pressure on acute hospitals while improving patient access to vital diagnostic care.
Comprehensive Diagnostic Services
The Barking CDC replaces temporary mobile units for CT and MRI scans, offering a permanent and state-of-the-art solution. In addition to advanced imaging, the facility provides a range of diagnostic services, including ultrasound, X-ray, cardiology, respiratory testing, and pathology diagnostics. Constructed primarily off-site, the modular build ensured efficient project delivery, with the facility completed and operational by early 2024.
Engineering Excellence in Modular Design
DSSR was instrumental in designing the modular mechanical, electrical, and public health (MEP) systems to meet the facility’s complex operational needs. The scope of work also included enabling infrastructure, such as a new electrical substation and emergency generator, ensuring reliable power and operational resilience for this essential healthcare hub.
