DSSR Leadership Course in Brathay Cumbria

Over the last year, we have been working with the Brathay Trust charity to host a series of executive leadership training courses at Brathay Hall in Cumbria. By the end of this series of events, all DSSR colleagues, from Business Support to Regional Director, will have gone through the leadership training course.

Each two-day training course is primarily designed to increase awareness of the importance of communication in a leadership role, utilising a mix of classroom and experiential learning, with lots of exciting and challenging activities.

We aim to provide all staff with the relevant opportunities to fulfil their true potential by exposing them to wider learning experiences and providing opportunities to explore interests that can lead to new ideas and new ways of working.

Brathay Trust is proud of its ability to help people to develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours to adapt to challenges and seize opportunities. They aim to help people achieve this through a blend of indoor and outdoor activities at their Lake District center.

The Brathay training courses are part of the company’s longer-term business strategy and reflect our commitment to growing and developing the skills and capabilities of our colleagues through various forms of training and development.

Hiring: Graduate Building Performance Modeller

Due to continued growth, we are increasing our Glasgow Office-based team. We would like to hear from Graduates who are interested in developing a career in Building Performance Modelling within the Built environment with focus on modelling HVAC networks.

DSSR is an independent firm of design, engineers and technical specialists, working across the built environment. We help our clients solve their most complex challenges as we strive to find a better way and shape a better world. We offer our clients the innovation and technical know-how to deliver their projects on schedule, on budget and without compromise. Our Building Performance Modelling team is embedded with our integrated engineering design team who deliver complete building services engineering solutions for projects of all types.

Working under the guidance and supervision of our experienced Building Performance Modelling team, you’ll develop your knowledge and skills in energy modelling and assist with the development of energy, decarbonisation, and sustainability strategies for new-build and existing buildings, supporting our Building Services Engineers and Sustainability Specialists.

You will have the opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of HVAC systems and control modelling using the IES VE ApacheHVAC software for various environmental systems for buildings, model typical and innovative HVAC systems, optimise HVAC operation and minimise energy consumption and carbon emissions, whilst working towards professional membership.

With the opportunity to assume greater levels of responsibility and autonomy as your professional skills develop, over time, you’ll be supported and encouraged to work towards Chartership, through one of our training programmes.

Candidates should have:

  • BSc/MSc or BEng / MEng in a subject related to the Built Environment or Engineering.
  • Some knowledge and experience of building physics, particularly about heat transfer, energy, thermal comfort and natural ventilation.
  • Excellent communication skills with a positive and flexible attitude
  • Enthusiasm for a career in sustainable building services design & controls underpinned by an understanding of our sector and work
  • Analytical thought process
  • Creative approach to problem-solving
  • Aptitude to work on your own initiative and be proactive
  • Organised and methodical in your approach to managing your tasks and priorities,
  • A drive to meet deadlines and a close appreciation of the commercial factors which affect design solutions

The IES-VE is a focus within our dedicated Building Performance Modelling team, and although experience using this integrated analysis tool is not essential, it will be beneficial. An awareness of CIBSE / ASHRAE load calculations, operational energy calculation using TM54, and a programming language such as Python, will also be of benefit.

Key Skills

DSSR Harrogate Complete Endoscopy Unit

We are pleased to share news of the successful handover of the endoscopy refurbishment project for the Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

As the M&E consultant, DSSR played a key role in the refurbishment of 4 endoscopy suites and a 5-bed recovery bay. The project also encompassed a new RO plantroom and washing room.

Appointed by Kier Construction, the team maintained a strong emphasis on achieving excellence in quality and sustainable MEP design, setting new standards and benefiting the NHS healthcare infrastructure throughout the project.
