Enabling realistic training environment
DSSR is a leading expert in designing lighting, control, and ventilation systems for indoor firing ranges to enable realistic training environments for law enforcement personnel. With a great deal of experience in the field, our team of expert engineers has developed advanced lighting solutions that allow instructors to set pre-set lighting scenarios to prepare trainees for real-life scenarios where lighting conditions may change rapidly or unexpectedly, improving their readiness and reaction times.
Our lighting and control systems are highly customisable, ensuring that each training environment is safe, effective, and highly realistic. Additionally, our CCTV systems are designed to be reliable and highly effective in capturing and recording training sessions, allowing instructors to identify areas for improvement and helping trainees to better understand their strengths and weaknesses.
Proper ventilation is critical in maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for both staff and occupants during training, and our ventilation solutions are designed to meet the unique needs of each firing range. Our team of expert engineers has a deep understanding of the physics of air movement and uses this knowledge to design custom solutions that provide the appropriate air velocity for each firing position.
03 / Custody Suites
Kendal Custody Suite
The addition of a new dedicated 10 cell Custody Suite within an existing central courtyard with the existing Police Station is a significant development that required the expertise of experienced engineers. The new custody suite also includes ancillary accommodation, dedicated plantroom accommodation, and a secure van dock to ensure the safety and security of both staff and occupants.
DSSR played a vital role in this project, providing mechanical, electrical, and public health engineering design services. This included the design and installation of HVAC systems, electrical power and lighting systems, and public health systems.
To ensure that the new custody suite operates efficiently, our team of engineers used innovative and sustainable design solutions. These solutions included energy-efficient lighting, heating, and cooling systems, as well as the installation of energy-efficient equipment and appliances.
Throughout the project, we worked closely with the construction team to ensure that the mechanical, electrical, and public health systems were integrated seamlessly into the building’s design. The result is a custody suite that is safe, secure, and efficient, providing a comfortable and secure environment for staff and occupants.
04 / Innovative, intelligent and sustainable solutions
Borough Command Unit
The new build Borough Command Unit is an impressive development that provides approximately 4500 square metres of office accommodation. One of the standout features of the building is the incorporation of renewable technologies, such as rainwater harvesting, solar hot water, ground source heat pump, and air source heat pump. These technologies make the building more environmentally friendly and reduce its carbon footprint.
To ensure that the building operates efficiently and effectively, sophisticated and practical automatic control systems were installed for the lighting and ventilation installations. These systems allow for precise control and management of the building’s energy usage, ensuring that it operates at peak efficiency.
DSSR was responsible for providing Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health engineering services for the project. This encompassed the installation of the automatic controls and building energy management system (BEMS), which is crucial for monitoring and managing the building’s energy usage.
The project’s sustainability and innovative use of renewable technologies were recognised at the North West Construction Awards in 2009, where it was highly recommended in the Sustainability category. The development serves as an excellent example of how innovative technologies and intelligent engineering solutions can be used to create sustainable and efficient buildings.
