01 / Services
DSSR provides a complete service in all aspects of the design, supervision and installation of mechanical and electrical engineering services.
We can also tailor our service to suit the client’s specific needs. This can encompass design, condition surveys and reports, utility and infrastructure services, energy studies, specifications, design monitoring, installation inspections, testing and commissioning and preventative maintenance management.
02 / Core Services
We have gained a great deal of experience working as building services and sustainability consultants on a wide range of projects, all of which would be used to add value to this project. In addition to our core services, we also provide;
Low Carbon Energy Assessor LCEA, BREEAM Assessors, BREEAM Advisory Professionals, CIBSE Heat Network Consultants, Thermal Modelling & Building Performance Simulation, Computational Thermal Dynamics Analyses (CFD), SBEM Section 6 and Part L Compliance Checks, Decarbonisation Studies, Energy Performance Certification, Energy and Thermal Comfort Analyses & Low Carbon / Sustainable Design Studies.
03 / Specialisms
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
DSSR utilises Computational Fluid Dynamics to provide a more detailed examination of air velocity, air temperature, humidity, thermal radiation, thermal comfort and air quality within the built environment – more than can be obtained from thermal models alone. For example, instead of the room average air temperature provided by a thermal model, CFD models can resolve the temperature distribution across a room: the thermal stratification resulting from a displacement ventilation system, or the cool downdraft, and resulting thermal comfort, next to a window during winter.
Because CFD can be used to calculate these variables on a much finer scale than a thermal model it can be used for building design optimisation and building physics problems that are out of the scope of thermal models.
04 / Thermal Modelling
Adding value to the design
Thermal Modelling is an expertise offered by DSSR which can add value to the design by helping to reduce capital and life cycle costs, reduce CO2emissions and provide environments which occupants are satisfied with. We carry this out using our modelling software of choice which is the accredited dynamic simulation software IES VE.
On any design project the RIBA Stage A / B is normally the domain of the Architect and is generally the stage where conceptual building layouts are being developed. This is traditionally seen as being too early to be passed to the Engineers to allow the structure and services to be designed. However, in recent years DSSR have been providing more assistance to developers and their design teams during these early stages to help maximise the building design in terms of energy and environmental design.
At all stages of the design we can provide dynamic simulation modelling as a means of reviewing the design and simulating the expected building energy requirements and in turn building carbon dioxide emissions.
05 / Sustainability / BREEAM
In addition to the traditional Mechanical and Electrical Design Services which have been provided by DSSR , we are also in a position to offer consultancy advice on all elements of sustainable design.
06 / High Voltage
DSSR specialise in a range of High Voltage services, including design for open or closed ring configurations, protection studies for HV through to LV protection devices and high voltage generator installation design and operation strategy, also in the investigation of complex operational problems associated with electrical infrastructure failures from HV systems through to LV networks.
DSSR’s services also extend to the replacement of complex obsolete SCADA systems supporting and controlling HV Networks supplying mission critical instantiations with up to date controls systems using IEC 61850 protocol. The services provided by DSSR are supported by HV AP certified staff.
