02 / Overview
Overview of the University Hospital Lewisham project
The scheme was engineering-led and involved the replacement of the existing theatre ventilation plant and the full refurbishment of the theatres.
Electrical heating and cooling infrastructure was included to facilitate the design and also allow for future developments of the building.
Theatre Ventilation Plant Replacement
The existing theatre ventilation plant was nearing the end of its life and was no longer able to meet the needs of the hospital. DSSR designed a new plant that would provide a more efficient and reliable service. The new plant was also designed to be more environmentally friendly, using less energy and producing less waste.
Theatre Refurbishment
The theatres themselves were also in need of refurbishment. DSSR designed a new layout for the theatres that would improve the workflow and efficiency of the operating theatre team. The new layout also included new equipment and furniture, to create a more comfortable and welcoming environment for patients and staff.
Electrical Heating and Cooling Infrastructure
In addition to the theatre ventilation plant and theatre refurbishment, DSSR also designed the electrical heating and cooling infrastructure for the hospital. This infrastructure would provide a reliable and efficient source of heating and cooling for the entire building. The infrastructure was also designed to be flexible, to allow for future developments of the building.
