Overview of the Three New Babcock Offices project
DSSR was commissioned by Abstract Development Services to provide l M&E design services across various new office developments over numerous years throughout the UK.
- Henley Devonport (£21m) – The project comprised circa 8000 sq/m of Grade A office development within the Dockyard at Devonport.
- Henley Rosyth (£15m) – The project comprised circa 5600 sq/m of Grade A Office Space with associated parking and landscaping over a rational and bespoke floor plate.
- These buildings were purpose build to rehouse Babcock Marine Sector staff from adjoining, outdated office buildings. The facilities are multi-disciplined (Defence, Marine, Science and Technology) and also customer-facing for Corporate Clients.
- DSSR delivered complete MEP design services and site monitoring role and was also responsible for the BREEAM Assessment with both buildings achieving a ‘B’ Excellent rating.
Babcock International – Bristol
DSSR delivered a full MEP concept design review and site monitoring service for a new five-storey, 85,790 sq ft office building within Bristol Business Park on behalf of the client – from concept design through to contract completion and commissioning stage. The scheme was designed by architects Keppie Design to accommodate a number of operating divisions of the international engineering support services company the Babcock Group. DSSR also carried out a full BREEAM sustainability and assessment consultancy service.
Babcock International – Rosyth
Abstract was appointed by Rosyth Royal Dockyard Ltd, in summer 2015, to construct a new state-of-the-art Engineering Centre, to house 450 staff for the Babcock Marine Sector, as part of their ongoing investment programme on the Fife site. DSSR delivered the full MEP concept design review and site monitoring service on behalf of the client, from concept design through to contract completion and commissioning stage. The project comprised circa 5,600m² of Grade A Office Space with associated parking and landscaping over a rational and bespoke floor plate. The building is multi-disciplined (Defence, Marine, Science & Technology) and is also customer-facing for corporate clients. This required a functional design that would feel not only secure and engineered but also be suitable for its local environment.
DSSR works included:
- Early implementation of site-wide utility design strategy
- A detailed review of the MEP and building energy model design and build contractor’s proposals against the client specification documents
- Regular site monitoring and reporting directly to the client throughout the duration of the contract and witness testing and review of final contract close-out documents through to contract completion.
DSSR also carried out a full BREEAM sustainability and assessment consultancy service. The building has achieved BREEAM Excellent and EPC B ratings.
Babcock International – Devonport Dockyard
The project comprised circa 8000 sq/m of Grade A office development within the Dockyard at Devonport. DSSR was appointed by Abstract to design building services for the new Grade A office development within the Dockyard, which was constructed to rehouse almost 800 Babcock Marine Sector staff from an adjoining, outdated office building. The development was completed, to full Cat B specification, in July 2018. The five storey building comprises almost 87,000 sq. ft. of offices together with parking for 232 cars and provides virtually column free floorplates of up to 18,000 sq.ft. The fitting-out works include a roof terrace, VRF air-conditioning, gym, showers and staff restaurant. The building achieved its targeted BREEAM (2014) Excellent and EPC B ratings.
