Overview of the Scania Decarbonised Buildings project
We are proud to have worked with Scania UK to deliver the sustainable design of a market-leading facility, which “is among the most sustainable industrial buildings in Scotland, hosting a range of energy efficiency features including an air source heat pump system, electric vehicle testing and charging stations, photovoltaic panels, and high-performance windows.
DSSR provided a full mechanical, electrical and energy design service for a new Scania Servicing Facility in Eurocentral, Central Scotland. This project is intended to be an exemplar for future Scania service facility roll-outs, a number of which are already commencing.
As well as low-energy mixed-mode and VRV solutions in the office areas, Scania opted for a future-facing, fully decarbonized environmental solution for the servicing facilities.
DSSR assisted in the preparation of a Decarbonisation Report for the Client to aid with their global company directive for renewable energy solutions to remove the need for any natural gas provision within their facilities.
Best Solutions
DSSR also undertook options appraisals for Ground Source Heat Pump, Air Source Heat Pump and Electrical Infrared Heating to determine the best solution, both for sustainability and capital costs.
The building was recently used as a venue to host Scania’s Net Zero Conference, organised in the backdrop of COP26, where the company spoke about its sustainable agenda and plans for supporting decarbonisation.
The impressive building is completely fossil-free and boasts a range of sustainable features including a high-efficiency underfloor Air-source heating system, sustainable drainage and environmental containment in accordance with local regulations, water recycling in its vehicle wash, and LED lighting throughout and roof-mounted energy-generating photovoltaic panels.
