Overview of the Oldham CDC Modular Endoscopy Project
DSSR, in collaboration with the Design Team, acted as the Trust’s representative to develop the RIBA Stage 3 design for tender to modular contractors. MTX, the successful modular contractor, engaged the Design Team, including DSSR, to complete the design and provide ongoing support throughout the project’s completion.
Addressing Project Challenges
One of the primary challenges of the project was to accommodate future development zones on the site and ensure the adaptability of services for future projects. Additionally, the selection of appropriate standards, based on NHS guidance and the nature of the community facility, required careful consideration. Shared air handling plant for endoscopy procedure rooms and the inclusion of an emergency standby generator were key decisions made to address these challenges.
Sustainability and Energy Efficiency
The Trust’s aspiration to develop a low-carbon building was realised through the implementation of several sustainable strategies. Air source heat pumps, combined with water-to-water heat pumps, were utilised to provide heating and domestic hot water, reducing reliance on traditional fossil fuel-based systems. Furthermore, photovoltaic panels were installed on the roof to generate additional zero-carbon energy.
A Collaborative Approach
The successful delivery of this project was a result of a collaborative effort between DSSR, the Design Team, MTX, and the Trust. By working closely together, the team was able to overcome challenges, meet stringent standards, and deliver a high-quality facility that meets the needs of the community.
