Hiring: Graduate Building Performance Modeller

Due to continued growth, we are increasing our Glasgow Office-based team. We would like to hear from Graduates who are interested in developing a career in Building Performance Modelling and Sustainability within the Built environment.

DSSR is an independent firm of design, engineers and technical specialists, working across the built environment. Our Sustainability team is embedded with our integrated engineering design team who deliver complete building services engineering solutions for projects of all types.

Working under the guidance and supervision of our experienced Building Performance Modelling team, you’ll develop your knowledge and skills in energy modelling and assist with the development of energy, decarbonisation, and sustainability strategies for new-build and existing buildings, supporting our Building Services Engineers and Sustainability Specialists.

You will have the opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of the various environmental systems for buildings, undertake assessments, provide sustainability advice and visit sites to see work being undertaken, whilst working towards professional membership.

With the opportunity to assume greater levels of responsibility and autonomy as your professional skills develop, over time, you’ll be supported and encouraged to work towards Chartership, through one of our training programmes.

Candidates should have:

  • BSc/MSc or BEng / MEng in a subject related to the Built Environment or Engineering.
  • Some knowledge and experience of building physics, particularly about heat transfer, energy, thermal comfort and natural ventilation.
  • Excellent communication skills with a positive and flexible attitude
  • Enthusiasm for a career in sustainable building design underpinned by an understanding of our sector and work
  • Analytical thought process
  • Creative approach to problem-solving
  • Aptitude to work on your own initiative and be proactive
  • Organised and methodical in your approach to managing your tasks and priorities,
  • A drive to meet deadlines and a close appreciation of the commercial factors which affect design solutions

The IES-VE is a focus within our dedicated Building Performance Modelling team, and although experience using this integrated analysis tool is not essential, it will be beneficial. An awareness of climate-based daylighting analysis, operational energy calculation using TM54, decarbonisation studies, and sustainability rating tools such as BREEAM will also be of benefit.
