02 / Overview

Overview of the Hawkhead Village - Cubicle Building project

The former Hawkhead Hospital in Renfrewshire has been transformed into a unique and highly desirable residential estate.

The development, which was designed by Holmes Partnership for Keir Homes, incorporates a strong sustainability agenda with the objective of creating a vibrant, mixed community incorporating a high percentage of flats, terraced houses and generous landscaped public spaces.

The development is located on a 12.5-acre site that was formerly home to the Hawkhead Hospital. The hospital was built in the early 1900s and closed in 2006. The development includes the refurbishment of the Cubicle Building, a Grade A listed building that was designed by Scottish architect Thomas Smith Tait. The building will be converted into 18 flats.

New build elements

The new build element of the development includes 182 flats and 10 terraced houses. The flats are a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. The terraced houses are a mix of two- and three-bedroom homes.

The development also includes generous landscaped public spaces, including a new park, a playground, and a community garden. The park will be open to the public and will include a variety of amenities, such as a children’s play area, a fitness trail, and a picnic area. The playground will be specifically designed for children of all ages and abilities. The community garden will be a space for residents to grow their own vegetables and flowers.

The development is designed to be sustainable and energy efficient. The homes will be built to a high standard of energy efficiency and will be equipped with sustainable features, such as solar panels and rainwater harvesting systems. The development will also be car-free, with residents encouraged to walk, cycle, or use public transport.

The development is a significant addition to the Renfrewshire landscape. It is a sustainable, mixed-use development that will create a vibrant and desirable new community. The development will also help to regenerate the Hawkhead area and make it a more attractive place to live, work, and visit.
